Academic position

The Permanent Representation of Denmark to the Council of Europe, Strasbourg

Are you looking for a challenging academic job in a political setting? Do you have strong analytical skills and are you interested in human rights, the rule of law and democracy? Then you might be the person we are looking for. 

We are seeking a colleague with an academic background in our expansion of the Representation towards and during the Danish Chairmanship of the Council of Europe. The Representation serves the interest of Denmark mainly in the Committee of Ministers and the Rapporteur groups promoting human rights, the rule of law and democracy in Europe.

Job Description
We are looking for a person who wants to be part of a dynamic team heading towards an exciting and demanding time with the Chairmanship of the Council of Europe. We are a small team of seven people with a strong team spirit. The main task will be preparation and participation in the work connected to the Chairmanship, which will take place from November 2017 till May 2018. You will contribute substantially to the daily work and tasks of the Representation, attend meetings in the Committee of Ministers and the Rapporteur groups, act as liaison to the relevant Danish authorities involved in the Presidency and help with matters related to the Chairmanship such as planning high-level visits.

Professional and personal qualifications:
• Work experience and knowledge of multilateral cooperation, preferable with interest in promoting human rights, rule of law and democracy;
• Experience in working for/with Danish authorities/ministries;
• Strong analytical skills and excellent writing skills in both Danish and English (skills in French will be considered an advantage);
• Responsible, committed and reliable with situational awareness;
• Flair for creating and maintaining networks.

Wage and conditions:
The employment is temporary for one year with the possibility of extension and will be on local terms and conditions of the French labour market. Working hours 35 hours per week and overtime should be expected. Employment as of 1 May 2017.
