Position: Academic Officer (legal advisor)
Type of employment: full time, local contract, 1½ year will possibility of extension.

The Permanent Representation of Denmark to the Council of Europe, Strasbourg is recruiting an academic officer. The Representation serves the interests of Denmark in the Council of Europe, which has headquarters in Strasbourg, France. The main work takes place in the Committee of Ministers and the attached rapporteur groups promoting human rights, the rule of law and democracy in the 46 member states of the Council of Europe. You will assist the ambassador in preparing Danish positions and statements and you will also represent Denmark and Danish interests in meetings of the Council of Europe.
We are seeking a colleague with a relevant academic background, who wants to be part of a small dynamic team. You will contribute to the daily work and tasks of the Representation, including the work related to the Committee of Minister’s follow up to member states execution of judgements from the European Court of Human Rights, as well as work related to anti-discrimination, gender equality, freedom of expression, media and information, artificial intelligence and human rights, the independence and efficiency of justice, work against corruption etc.
Main tasks and responsibility
Prepare and attend as well as report from meetings in the Council, including through close contacts with the Secretariat and other delegations.
Act as liaison to relevant Danish authorities (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, etc.).
Effective networking among the representatives of the member states.
Required qualifications
- Relevant academic degree, i.e. law, political science, etc.
- Experience in working together with Danish authorities/ministries.
- Flair for creating and maintaining networks.
- Strong analytical skills an excellent writing skills.
- Team-player, responsible, committed and reliable with situational awareness.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
- Flexible and willing to adapt to the changing needs of the Representation.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritizing the work as well as work under time pressure.
- Fluency in English and a Scandinavian language. Knowledge of French (written and spoken) is an advantage.
